Darlene L. Turner on weaving truth into gripping fiction

What drew you to write romantic suspense?

My love of writing and mystery began when I picked up my first Nancy Drew book as a girl. I was captivated by trying to figure out the clues. I always wanted to be a policewoman after watching police and crime television shows. My love for all-things-mystery eventually lured me in to writing suspenseful stories.

How does your faith influence your writing?

My faith is the core in my stories. No matter what my characters go through, they always turn to God in the end. I pray before I start writing and ask God to give me His words, not mine. I want to be His light. Someone once said that we write with God not for God. I like that. He’s right there with me when my fingers are flying across my keyboard.

Why should a Christian read or write in your genre?

Jesus was a storyteller and used parables to reach the lost. Christian fiction doesn’t just entertain – it inspires hearts to trust the Light that overcomes all darkness by offering stories of hope, redemption and God’s unshakable presence in life’s storms. Evil and danger heighten the contrast between the darkness in the world and God’s light breaking through. Writers in this genre can weave truth into gripping plots.

Darlene L. Turner is in the middle of publishing a six-book series called National Park Protectors (Love Inspired Suspense). Last June the Ontario author also published Echoes of Darkness (Love Inspired Trade) about a female constable trying to hide her horrifying past and display God’s light (DarleneLTurner.com). Photo of Darlene Turner by Lynette Eason Photography, LLC
