Danielle Strickland on writing and activism

Your book on hope is more relevant than ever. Are people still responding?

I wrote The Other Side of Hope during Covid. It turned out to be an essential journey for me into the deeper end of what real hope is and how to find it. People tell me the stories in this book have helped them recognize and see hope in the chaos.

More recently you edited Need to Know: Empowering Female Leadership and Why It’s Essential for the Future of the Church. Who’s that book for?

It’s for anyone in church ministry, especially male-dominated spaces. I’ve met so many leaders who are theologically convinced of the need for women to lead, but just aren’t seeing it in their own contexts. Over 21 diverse voices offer their best ideas and practices to transition the Church to a more beautiful and functional reflection of Jesus.

How do you juggle writing and activism?

My writing is usually an overflow of already deeply processed grief that has led me to pray, grieve, speak, work, and then write to help others along the way. I pray that everything I write might help people encounter Jesus and the gospel.

Danielle Strickland of Vancouver is author of six books, host of The Right Side Up podcast, and a ministry entrepreneur involved with multiple charities (DanielleStrickland.com).
