Christian communicators invited to Winnipeg meetup

Sept. 26-28 event features presentations by Karen Stiller, Angela Reitsma Bick, Patricia Paddey, Michael Higgins, John Longhurst and more

Are you involved in writing, editing, marketing, fundraising, videography, podcasting, graphic design or other communications work?

An association that links such Christian professionals is holding its annual conference in Winnipeg this year from September 26-28.

Workshops organized by the Canadian Christian Communicators Association (formerly the Canadian Church Press) will tackle:

• the disappearance of religion from mainstream media (Michael Higgins, author of The Jesuit Disruptor: A Personal Portrait of Pope Francis).
• the power of true stories and vulnerability in our writing (Karen Stiller, author of Holiness Here: Searching for God in the Ordinary Events of Everyday Life)
• connections between faith deconstruction and journalism (Angela Reitsma Bick, coauthor of Blessed Are the Undone: Testimonies of the Quiet Deconstruction of Faith in Canada)
• magazine redesign (Kristin Ostensen, managing editor, and Lisa Suroso, graphic designer, of Salvationist magazine)
• ethics around reporting on evil (Murray Stiller of Toolkit Media and Education, which helps Christian universities develop and deliver BA and MA degrees in media)
• and healthy habits for writers (Patricia Paddey and Karen Stiller co-authors of Craft, Cost & Call: How to Build a Life as a Christian Writer).
